I started this post and discontinued it several times. Mostly because I couldn't find a good article to post as a source, but I think the issue is very relevant to class, so I'll try again.
MSNBC showed a clip of a close-up of a gun on a man's back, not showing the man's face. The anchors then stated that it was white racists who were bringing guns to the rally. It was later learned that the man they were showing was black. I wanted an article or video that gave the story straight up, but since it was opponents who called out MSNBC, of course there are no straight news stories. So here it is as unbiased as I could find it. There's a bunch of gibberish at the end about merchandise, so the story really ends at about 1:00 into the video.

I would really like to hear others' thoughts on this. As I said in my first post, it is up to the individual to decide what his opinions are. All the media can do is present facts. However, I'm conflicted in this particular story. Had I seen the story before it were exposed, would I have swallowed what the anchors said about racism having anything to do with firearms? No. I honestly would not have paid much attention to it. And I as I said in the beginning of the post, most of the videos and articles I found exposing the race of the man were spun with opinions. That's not a bad thing, but for the class, I just wanted a straight news story.
So, should MSNBC take the heat for this? Or should they be free to tell a story however they wish?

Lying By Omission?

Glen Beck got into some trouble with his sponsors for what he said, so the same should probably apply to anyone else that uses race when they shouldn't. I don't know how we are to progress if people in the media don't stop bringing up these issues when they may not really be issues.
You are avoiding the bigger point she was making. From what I saw, I think she was trying to understand why some White people show up to Obama rallies with guns, and if it is because of his race. We didn't see people showing up with guns at previous President's rallies.
Foxnews also edited out the portion they want you to see, if we are to watch the whole segment in it's context, you will probably have a different opinion. Why is it that Foxnews is always interested in White V. Black issues? I think that is a question you need to ask yourself.
Sorry but where did I say anything about Fox news? The clip I posted was from Fox because it was the only one I could find on a news network and not done by a single v-logger.
To Eazycrat: How did Fox News "edit out" anything in this?
MSNBC was the news organization that ran the original story complaining about "white people with guns," and yet when exposed as omitting pertinent information--the man carrying in Arizona was black, not white--suddenly Fox News is "always interested" in the issue?
To reiterate: Why is pointing out MSNBC's obvious omission a bad thing on the part of another media outlet?
I don't think that part of the news should be to tell it how you wish. It is the job on the news stations to report what happened not make up a story. They are not reality shows.
This all just pissed me off. I think it is important that people make statements like these when it comes to our constitutional rights. A person simply cannot be "in your face" enough on these issues.
What makes me angry is how MSNBC tried to make their own story by editing the material.
